Red Basil Powder Furikake “Yukari”

0

This post is continued from the other post about Red basil “Shiso” juice. But you can use clean fresh red basil leaves too of course. “Yukari” is a sort of Furikake, made of red basil leaves and salt. This is normally used on white rice, but I sometimes put this on light flavored pickles or fresh vegetables, and it is quite useful.

If you made red basil juice, just squeeze it and pick up leaves only and put 1-2 teaspoon of vinegar (to get the red colour back), and do one of these ways.
1) Place them on a place, and microwave, 3 mins then mix a little, run another 3 mins or until all the leaves are completely dry.
2) Place them on a zaru (a flat bamboo strainer), or a kitchen paper on a large plate, and leave them under the sun until the leaves become dry.

After then, make them like powder either by hands or grinder. I use hands to get random sizes.
If you want just Red basil powder without salt, just keep as it is. This can be used for “Dango” or any Japanese sweet with Shiso Flavor.
If you want to make Furikake, add mix with salt. You can also add some sesame here for more interesting flavor. If you want to use this with rice, I recommend of mixing with salt.
